The lounge is kept cosy in the winter with the wood fire and is the perfect place to relax and read while enjoying the country ambience. Cooling summer breezes in the evening rise up the valley providing a welcome respite during the summer, complemented by ceiling fans.

The balcony is the perfect place to sit and enjoy your breakfast or evening while watching the birds in the birdbath. You are likely to see large colourful King Parrots to the tiny delicate thornbills and many other birds too numerous to mention.

Extra beds in the lounge room can be made-up for families or couples travelling together.

A bar fridge, microwave and BBQ with the necessary crockery and cutlery are provided for your use. A television, DVD, video, piano and stereo are also provided.

Tourist brochures, books and local knowledge from Janet and David will help you get the most out of your stay in the Western District of Victoria.

The Bedroom

The Bedroom

The bedroom opens onto the balcony and has wonderful views across the garden and the Otways. The bedroom has a comfortable queen size bed and ample storage facilities.

Just adjacent to the bedroom is the bathroom which has a full size bath as well as a separate shower. The deep bath is perfect for relaxing and unwinding from travels or busy city life. The basin was made by the local pottery and is set in a blackwood bench top.

The heated towel rail warms soft fluffy towels.

Our Gardens

Wanawong has been a participant in the Australian Open Garden Scheme for many years and has been featured in Australian Country Style and Your Garden magazines.

The one hectare garden is set high in the Otway Ranges with spectacular views. In spring, cool climate plants such as rhododendrons, alpines and bulbs flourish. Roses, lilies and clematis are set off by mature shady trees during the summer months. Autumn brings rich colours to the deciduous trees and the final flush of roses and perennials.

The moderate climate with rare frosts and an average rainfall of 1000mm makes gardening here very rewarding. A large range of rare and unusual exotics thrives in these conditions. Kangaroos are regular visitors in nearby paddocks.

For those just wishing to visit the garden, the garden is open to groups of 12 or more; bookings are essential. A two hour drive makes the garden an ideal day's outing from Melbourne. There is easy coach access for large groups. Plenty of sheltered seating is available for groups wishing to have morning/afternoon tea or lunch. Toilet facilities are available. Entrance cost is $6 pp.

Wanawong is an idyllic setting for wedding ceremonies. The garden provides a range of charming backdrops for photographs.
